Just live! What an amazingly easy principle, yet why is it that we find it so hard to do it?
Here in Philippines life is so simple. The people work during the day of course but they do this while also living if that makes sense. They are laughing, chatting with each other, listening to music, singing along, dancing.
The Filipinos have a passion, a feeling for life that seems to be lost back in the West. Why not also dance and sing while you're working- this is what life is supposed to be, is, yet for us it slips by daily. I think now with horror at all those people in cubicles, small, confined, sterile, air-conditioned little self-made prisons, staring at the computer screens all day, perhaps adding and subtracting figures, jobs that really have no meaning, existence that is devoid of Life, time spent without the Source. No wonder that we feel lost, depressed, even need to use medication. And the sadder thing yet is that everybody here wants to move to the West, even this very moment that I am typing this, there is a girl next to me writing a sweet and already grateful letter to a foreign older gentleman, hoping only to find a better life, to be able to help her family. For me, jealous of the life in the East, it seems hard to understand why they envy our zombie life so much. Striving towards the deadening of souls. They do not know. And they will get there in time, they too will care for nothing but gathering of things, they too will lose the concept of human relating, sense of togetherness and family. Maybe it is how its supposed to be. Maybe they need to learn this. Maybe we are in the process of unlearning it. I do so dearly hope so.
I guess the main question on my mind is- why do we have to make everything so serious? Isn't life a dance, a joy, a music? It is our own choice to join it, or go off-tune and suffer.
But this is true- I feel in the very center of Life here. Everything is natural. Unsanitary- close to nature. Dangerous- oh yes! Diseases, bugs... and the worst of all the traffic. No rules, but the rule of the horn. Never, never a seat-belt or a helmet. Bad roads. Speeding. We took a few tours on a motorcycle. And I can say- I do not want to travel another way anymore. Life is life. Life is unstable, life IS dangerous. To be afraid!? Absolutely not- to love it and enjoy it is the only option.
Yeah! They're having fun! The West has lost some of its sense of fun. But even though "life is dangerous", you should still wear a helmet... the danger is not to be feared, but nor is it part of the fun, imho.
