For the past four days we have been in paradise. :) Or so it seemed.
We rented motorcycles (what else :) ) and set on our way to the seaside town of Sihanoukville.
On our way, about 112 km from Phom Penh, we took a de-tour to Kirirom National park, Cambodia's oldest of the kind. The scenery here was entirely different from the rest of the country. Peaceful and cool forests dotted with lakes and occasional water-falls, this area is very popular with the local people for going on day-trips and having picnics. Our fish was delicious! :)
When we reached Sihanoukville we breathed in the already familiar atmosphere of a blissful and lazy beach town. Bright blue skies, salty sea air, the beach dotted with tens and tens of restaurants, with sun-beds to laze the day away and do nothing but chill...
We probably got more chilled out than we have ever been in our lives.
Spent our days swimming in the amazingly warm yet refreshing sea and watching the local people (both big and small) laughingly dig out small treasures like sea-shells and all sorts of washed up curiosities, and pass hours chasing and catching crabs and small fish, letting them go and chasing them once again. Cambodians are nature-people, there is no doubt about that, we found this wonderful. What a rich world it is for people who find joy in all the beauty around them.
We also took an island hopping and snorkelling day-trip to the near-by islands, finding that Cambodia really has a lot to offer to people of all tastes and interests.
Me in self-made protective gear. The helmet would only stay on my head when put on backwards :)Also as a side-note would like to say thank you to Lauri in the Estonians Beach Road Hotel who was of great assistance to us.
We came back just in time for the Water Festival. For three days the riverside of Phnom Penh holds all sorts of festivities- boat-races in the day-time and fire-works and concerts in the evenings.
So we still haven't reached our main destination here- Angkor Wat! When this will happen is still not sure. At the moment we still have freedom to stretch our time in places we are in love with.
Wow!! Spectacular. Fabulous greenery, beautiful white sands that reminded me of your time in the Phillippines, and the beautiful sunsets that reminded me of the fun I had taking pictures in Spain, oh! and yummy fish.
ReplyDeleteI actually didn't see this blog earlier because I'd bookmarked your site, but just realised I'd accidentally bookmarked your "October" posts so nothing new was coming through.
And then I was thinking... off they are again on motorcycles without helmets, hehehe, but no, you're so good and actually wore helmets. I wouldn't want my comments to have an influence on your adventure, because I'm just sharing in the moment, but I'm really happy you took the trouble to get the gear. It looks like you're wearing some kind of high-tech gas mask, lol.
I bet you're water festival was coinciding with our Halloween, All Saints and All Souls day over here, so that would be the three days around Nov. 1st. Though not so much celebrating that I was aware of. (Fireworks on the night of the 5th though, celebrating Guy Fawkes' gunpowder treason and plot, I see no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.)
Best wishes & Blessings!!!
Your blog put a big smile on my face.
Stay safe and have fun and I'm delighted you're loving the moment.
Much metta!
